How We Use Student Data
MIEA collects only what’s necessary to support the learning experience. Here’s what we gather and why:
Email Address
Used for account login and management. Students can opt in during registration to receive occasional newsletters and program updates from our email platform. They can unsubscribe anytime.
If students don’t opt in, email is used only for course participation and teacher communication.
Email addresses are never shared with third parties or used to track behavior across platforms.
Phone Number
Phone number can be used as an alternative to email for account login. It’s visible to the student’s assigned teacher on the course roster for communication purposes during the course.
Teacher Communication
MIEA teachers may email students during the course with encouragement, feedback, and reminders. Communication is course-related and ends when the course concludes.
App Usage Data (Optional)
Students can log meditation practice, record gratitude entries, or respond to journaling prompts. These features are entirely optional, visible only to the student’s teacher during the course, and never used for research, profiling, or demographic tracking.
Gratitude entries can be shared anonymously with other students via the Gratitude River. Students opt in or out with each submission.
What We Don’t Collect
- Age, gender, or profile information
- Location data
- Health, biometric, or behavioral data outside of app use
Privacy Commitment
MIEA complies with U.S. and international privacy standards including FERPA. Student data remains confidential and is used solely to support course delivery. We don’t sell or share information with third parties.
