Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any prerequisites?
No prerequisites and no formal application. You’ll fill out a short intake form when you register. Foundations is designed to meet you wherever you are — whether you’ve been meditating for years or you’re just starting out.
I already took Fundamentals. Do I need to take Foundations?
If you completed Fundamentals, you’ve already done much of the work that Foundations covers. Reach out to us and we’ll confirm your eligibility to move directly into Phase 2.
How much mindfulness experience do I need?
None required. Foundations is intentionally designed for people across the full range of experience — from those who have never meditated to those with an established practice. The course builds your practice through structure and accountability, not prior expertise.
How is Foundations different from taking an Intro to Mindfulness class?
Intro to Mindfulness is MIEA’s student-facing course, it’s what your future students will take.
Foundations puts you through that same curriculum, but your trainer weaves in the teaching craft as you go: facilitation choices, pacing, and how to respond to common student questions. You’re learning the material and how to lead it, not just experiencing it.
Is Foundations required for Teacher Certification?
Yes. Foundations is Phase 1 of the MIEA Teacher Certification pathway. Completing it makes you eligible to enroll in Phase 2: the Teacher Training Workshop + Supported Teaching.
What is the time commitment?
Plan for roughly 3 to 4 hours per week over 5 weeks: one 90-minute live class, mindfulness practice 4 to 5 days a week (10 to 20 minutes each), a short video, and a bit of reading. The 4-hour retreat is scheduled with your cohort the Saturday following your third or fourth class.
Foundations is the first step in our Teacher Certification Program.
Cancellations made up 48 hours before the mindfulness training starts will receive an exchange for a different Foundations mindfulness training or a 100% refund depending on your preference. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the course start will receive an exchange only.
Foundations will be rescheduled if we do not have at least 6 participants 48 hours before the mindfulness training starts. In that case, you can sign up for any Foundations of your choosing, or request a full refund by emailing info@miea.com.
