Why MIEA
Not adapted for young adults. Built for them.
A lot of people put off teaching because they don’t feel ready yet, waiting to be more practiced, more certain, more something. MIEA flips that: the curriculum does the heavy lifting, your job is to show up, care about your students, and follow a structure that works.
That structure was built by psychiatrists at Duke University, not adapted from adult programs, not borrowed from other traditions. Tested on real students and refined over more than a decade, every practice, metaphor, and teaching strategy is designed specifically for 18–30-year-olds.

Built for young adults
Designed from the ground up for 18–30-year-olds. Not adapted. Built.
The curriculum is the product
Teaching guides, scripts, handouts, dashboard, and app — all included.

Community is built in.
Train with peers, get mentor feedback, join thousands of teachers worldwide.

Low barriers, not low standards.
No prerequisites. No application. CE credits available.

Being trained through MIEA has been one of the best career decisions I’ve made.
The closing of my classes left me in tears as students shared the impact of the group, the skills they learned, and their gratitude.

What Other Teachers Are Saying
“Students often come back after studying abroad or taking time off and tell us how their mindfulness practice supported them. That’s the magic — it sticks.”

Siddhant Babla
Dartmouth College
“After a year of using the program, retention rates are rising. Students are more successful, headed towards graduation, and increasingly utilizing our services.”

Jennifer Hurt
Director of Nursing Retention, BridgeValley Community & Technical College
“Students said class was life-changing. Several reported a significant decrease in anxiety and feeling more acceptance when anxiety did arise.”

Christine Derr
California State University
“I struggled with teaching mindfulness to college students in the past. Now I realize it’s because I didn’t know there are ways of teaching that are better than others for engaging this population.”

Barbara Campbell Thomas
UNCG School of Art
“Last night each student’s check-in sounded like a glowing testimonial of how transformative MIEA has been for them — and how motivated they are to keep going.”

Maria Sperduto
Yale University
“We started small — with just one trained facilitator. The student response was so positive that we expanded to a team of 12 mindfulness teachers across campus.”

The downstream impact
Your students are why this matters
Young adults today are navigating stress, uncertainty, and disconnection — often without the community structures previous generations relied on for grounding and meaning.
Mindfulness, taught well, gives them more than stress relief. It gives them a way to stay present in their own lives, connect with others, and find steadiness to navigate whatever comes next.

What Students Are Saying
“Grad school is based on a lot of uncertainty. The tools from mindfulness help me a lot.”

Jessica de Alcantara Ferreira
Dartmouth College
“I went in knowing absolutely nothing about meditation or mindfulness. After 4 weeks, I can say that this program truly helped me work through problems in my life that I never thought I could improve.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you begin. Still have questions? Download our free guide or contact us.
How long does the full certification take?
Phase 1 (Foundations) runs over 5 weeks. Phase 2 starts with a 5-day online intensive workshop. You have one year from the end of that workshop to complete your requirements. Most teachers finish the full certification in six months to a year. There’s no pressure to rush — the timeline is designed to fit a full professional schedule.
Do I need prior teaching or meditation experience?
No. There are no prerequisites to begin.
Phase 1 is specifically designed to build your personal practice from wherever you are — whether you’ve been meditating for years or just starting out. You don’t need to be an expert to teach well. You need a structured, trustworthy curriculum. That’s what MIEA provides.
Can my institution cover the cost?
Many participants have their certification funded through professional development budgets, wellness program funds, or departmental support. We offer group rates for three or more participants from the same institution — saving $300 per person.

Annual Fee
- After certification, the annual fee is $225/year
- This fee covers the license to teach our curriculum, use the trademarked logo, and access our technology
What happens after I’m certified?
Certification is the beginning, not the finish line. Your $225 annual license keeps your teaching credential active and gives you access to ongoing resources, curriculum updates, the MIEA teacher community, and continuing support. Many certified teachers describe the community as one of the most valuable parts of the program.
What if I am not affiliated with a University?
We have many teachers who teach mindfulness at community centers, private practices, within companies, and other types of organizations. These teachers have built a strong and supportive community on our teacher forum and meet monthly in our online support group.
How are you different from other mindfulness programs?
MIEA was designed specifically for college-aged adults and differs from mindfulness programs developed for more general populations of adults in several ways.
Can I earn CE Credits?
Yes. The Training Workshop (Phase 2) offers 18 CE credits for eligible professionals.
MIEA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. MIEA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
What are the terms and conditions of MIEA mindfulness teacher certification?
All teachers must agree to our Teacher Certification Agreement which outlines the rights, responsibilities, and terms of teaching MIEA’s curriculum. The document contains information on intellectual property, who can teach, access to our technology, and conducting research.
