Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions? Download our free guide or contact us.
How long does the full certification take?
Phase 1 (Foundations) runs over 5 weeks. Phase 2 starts with a 5-day online intensive workshop. You have one year from the end of that workshop to complete your requirements. Most teachers finish the full certification in six months to a year. There’s no pressure to rush — the timeline is designed to fit a full professional schedule.
Do I need prior teaching or meditation experience?
No. There are no prerequisites to begin.
Phase 1 is specifically designed to build your personal practice from wherever you are — whether you’ve been meditating for years or just starting out. You don’t need to be an expert to teach well. You need a structured, trustworthy curriculum. That’s what MIEA provides.
Can my institution cover the cost?
Many participants have their certification funded through professional development budgets, wellness program funds, or departmental support. We offer group rates for three or more participants from the same institution — saving $300 per person.

Annual Fee
- After certification, the annual fee is $225/year
- This fee covers the license to teach our curriculum, use the trademarked logo, and access our technology
What happens after I’m certified?
Certification is the beginning, not the finish line. Your $225 annual license keeps your teaching credential active and gives you access to ongoing resources, curriculum updates, the MIEA teacher community, and continuing support. Many certified teachers describe the community as one of the most valuable parts of the program.
What if I am not affiliated with a University?
We have many teachers who teach mindfulness at community centers, private practices, within companies, and other types of organizations. These teachers have built a strong and supportive community on our teacher forum and meet monthly in our online support group.
How are you different from other mindfulness programs?
MIEA was designed specifically for college-aged adults and differs from mindfulness programs developed for more general populations of adults in several ways.
Can I earn CE Credits?
Yes. The Training Workshop (Phase 2) offers 18 CE credits for eligible professionals.
MIEA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. MIEA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
What are the terms and conditions of MIEA mindfulness teacher certification?
All teachers must agree to our Teacher Certification Agreement which outlines the rights, responsibilities, and terms of teaching MIEA’s curriculum. The document contains information on intellectual property, who can teach, access to our technology, and conducting research.
