MESSAGE FROM co-FOUNDER Holly Rogers
Redefining the Way We Approach Meditation
During my time working with students at Duke University, I witnessed firsthand the incredible potential of mindfulness in alleviating the overwhelming stress students faced but struggled to maintain their engagement. Over ten years, we refined a class tailored for students, concentrating on practical skills for stress management, improved focus, and deeper personal insights, effectively addressing their unique needs and challenges.
The impact we witnessed was remarkable.
Today, the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (formerly known as Koru Mindfulness) is dedicated to fulfilling its mission: training educators at colleges and universities to deliver mindfulness teachings to the young adults they serve, utilizing our evidence-based curriculum. Our vision extends far beyond the classroom — we aspire to create a world where emerging adults everywhere embrace joyful and meaningful lives, guided by the wisdom and compassion that mindfulness cultivates.
Together, let’s transform the way we approach mindfulness and empower a generation to thrive.

Evidence: What is the evidence supporting MIEA’s program?

The Challenge
Rising Student Stress
A national survey revealed that 72% of students experience moderate to severe psychological distress. This has led to challenges with student retention, increases in student harm/violence, and increased demand for mental health services.

The Solution
Mindfulness Education with MIEA
Mindfulness was identified as one of the most important skills for improving mental health in the largest meta-analysis ever done on the effectiveness of psychotherapy.
The American Council on Education’s 2023 report “What Works for Improving Mental Health in Higher Education?” noted, “Mindfulness programs with supervised practice have the most consistently positive evidence.”
MIEA’s evidence-based curriculum consistently empowers students to achieve higher levels of well-being and resilience through supervised practice in small-group learning settings, aligning with ACE’s recommendations.
MIEA’s curriculum proved effective when taught remotely and helped students cope with COVID-19-related stress and anxiety.
